Railway launches discounted September steam service

GWR Heavy Freight No. 3802, a striking 2-8-0 locomotive built for hauling serious tonnage.

Llangollen and Corwen Railway has launched a special discounted steam service for Friday September 18 offering passengers a full-line return through the Dee Valley for just £15.

The September Steam Special will leave Llangollen at 3pm travelling to Corwen and back and calling at Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog along the way.

Tickets cost just £15 for adults and £5 for children, with passengers receiving £10 off the normal full-line return fare.

Passengers looking to make the occasion even more special can choose the Afternoon Tea Special, also discounted by £10 for the occasion.

Priced at £45 for adults and £20 for children, Afternoon Tea will be served at passengers' reserved tables aboard a heritage carriage as they travel through the Dee Valley.

The experience includes freshly made sandwiches, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream, a selection of cakes and sweet treats, and tea or coffee. Passengers can also choose to add a glass of sparkling wine.

Tim Hines from Llangollen and Corwen Railway, said: "We have an opportunity to run a bonus steam service on the Friday afternoon, and we want to fill it, so we've made the price pretty difficult to resist! At just £15 for an adult and £5 for a child for a full-line return to Corwen, we think this represents fantastic value. We've taken £10 off the normal fare specifically for this service.

"We've also taken £10 off our Afternoon Tea experience, so passengers can make a proper afternoon of it. You can sit at your reserved table, enjoy Afternoon Tea and watch the Dee Valley pass your window as a steam locomotive takes you to Corwen and back.

"We're always looking for ways to make our Railway accessible to more people and to make better use of opportunities to run additional services. This is one of the UK's best heritage railway experiences at a special price and, quite simply, it's a bargain."

The service is ideal for groups of friends looking for an afternoon out, families wanting an affordable steam experience or anyone simply looking for an excuse to enjoy a steam train on a Friday afternoon.

The September Steam Special departs Llangollen at 3pm on Friday September 18, calling at all stations on its journey to Corwen and return.
