Small army of Evel Knievels arrive at Llangollen station

* The Evel Knievels arrive on Llangollen station.

Llangollen Railway welcomed an army of Evel Knievels to the Dee Valley as they toured Wales to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the stunt bike legend's mighty jump at Wembley Stadium.

They also aim to raise funds for the NSPCC. The group have already collected an incredible £30,000 for the children’s charity this year.

The Evel Express left Corwen station at 11.05 am this morning (Thursday) and arrived at Llangollen just before noon.

Around 60 of the Ride Cymru Knievels travelled aboard the railway's Class 109 Wickham railcar.

They were all wearing Evel’s distinctive jumpsuit, cape and boot and were accompanied by some of his family, including Kelly his eldest son.

The Knievel posse are due to return from Llangollen to Corwen, where they have been staying, at 3.15pm today.

Railway press officer Terry Pickthall said: “We were really looking forward to the Ride Cymru Knievel’s visit and helping them to raise funds for the NSPCC."

Tomorrow (Friday) the 14th annual Ride Cymru Knievels event will be starting from Pontcysyllte Aqueduct with the Telford Inn as its morning HQ.

The Knievel family will be attending and organisers say supporters are welcome from 8am with the ride beginning at 9.15am.

The event is also in aid of the NSPCC.
