Latest Dee Valley clean-up planned for next Saturday

* Part of the haul from the river at a previous clean-up event.

People with a passion for the local environment have the chance to help keep it free from rubbish later this month by taking part in the latest Dee Valley Clean-Up.

The Big One is due to take place on Saturday June 21 and organisers are inviting everyone to join in.

Last year’s event was a huge success with over 200 people attending in some form. This makes it unofficially the biggest litter pick ever to happen in the valley, they believe.

This year they’re going for it again and are inviting anyone and everyone to join them.

In a message on Facebook they say: “We would love to invite you onto the water, trails and paths around Llangollen, anywhere that you want to target to make cleaner and safer for everyone and everything.

According to organisers, the plan is:

* Meet at Horseshoe Falls Car Park - 5pm

* Clean and collect wherever you want, how ever you want. There will be groups heading out on the river, canal, trails and paths

* There will be limited spaces on rafts and in canoes. These need to be booked beforehand

* Rubbish dump at Mill street car park 7.30

* People are welcome to meet at Riverbanc from 7.30 for music, food, gifts and raffle from sponsors

* For more information and to sign up for the clean-up, go to: https://www.deevalleycleanup.org/thebigone

Round-up of forthcoming events at Llangollen Museum

David Crane gives an update on forthcoming events at Llangollen Museum:

"On Wednesday 25th June, at 7:00pm, there will be an illustrated talk by Humphrey Gibson at Llangollen Museum entitled Coalmining in Denbighshire.

"Humphrey will be looking at the history of coal mining in Denbighshire, from the early days, through the closures in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, to the heritage attractions that they form today.

"Come and discover the history of what was once one of the key local industries in the area. Entrance will be £3 on the door, which will include refreshments.

"Leading up to the Eisteddfod, our new window display will feature photographs and artefacts related to the unique festival that takes place in Llangollen every year.

"For Eisteddfod week, we will also be updating our display cabinet inside the museum, as well as installing a new audio point with recordings from the 1970s of some of those people involved with the Eisteddfod looking back at the history of the event."
