MP launches new Community Champion of the Month scheme

* Becky Gittins MP has launched her new Community Champion of the Month initiative.

Becky Gittins, MP for Clwyd East, has launched her new Community Champion of the Month initiative - a programme designed to celebrate the individuals, groups and volunteers who make an outstanding contribution to communities across the constituency.

The first Community Champion video went live on her social media channels, featuring Ability Grows, a community-driven sustainable plant shop based in Greenfield.

Speaking ahead of the launch, she said: "Ability Grows is a wonderful example of what community support can achieve. The partnership with The Clocktower CIC gives adults with learning disabilities the chance to learn new skills, build confidence and be part of something that clearly means a great deal to them. Seeing the pride they take in running the shop shows just how valuable this project is for everyone involved."

She added: "This programme is about shining a light on the people and organisations who quietly keep our communities going. I’m looking forward to visiting many more of them now the initiative has launched, and I hope residents will pop into Ability Grows to show their support for this brilliant local project.

"I want this to be a celebration shaped by local people. If you know someone who goes above and beyond for their community, please do put their name forward."

At the end of the year, all Community Champion recipients will be invited to Parliament for a special celebration event, recognising their contribution to the life of Clwyd East.

The Community Champion of the Month programme will run throughout the year, with residents encouraged to nominate local heroes who deserve recognition.
