Pavilion goes crazy for Madness as summer of top music ends

Pop’s nutty boys went One Step Beyond as they headlined the final show of the summer at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod last night (Saturday).

Rounding off a month that has seen 11 global rock, pop and classical stars headline the iconic Pavilion, British pop giants Madness were in town as part of their UK tour in celebration of their 13^th studio album Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie debuting at number one in the UK charts. 

And the famous big tent became the Theatre of The Absurd as Suggs and co-performed hit after hit. 

Kicking off with One Step Beyond and Embarrassment, fans were treated to a real House of Fun with favourites on the night including My Girl, Wings of a Dove, Shut Up, Mr Apples, Baggy Trousers, Our House, and It Must Be Love before ending the night in that ever-so-Madness way with Night Boat to Cairo.

Addressing the packed crowd, Suggs said: “Isn’t it nice to be out and about. We’re all shapes and sizes but we’re still alive, and it’s nice to see some young people here!"

Supporting Madness was pop rockers The Hoosiers.

The headlining show from Madness marked the end of a summer of live music at Llangollen Pavilion which came out of a new partnership between the Eisteddfod and promoters Cuffe & Taylor. 

This kicked off in June with Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams followed by Simple Minds, Paloma Faith, Manic Street Preachers and Suede, Kaiser Chiefs, Tom Jones, Gregory Porter, Katherine Jenkins OBE, Nile Rodgers & CHIC and Jess Glynne.
