A Llangollen school's design and technology department has manufactured hundreds of protective face masks and visors for frontline NHS and care home workers.

Ysgol Dinas Brân staff members Gethin Williams and Michael Roberts have designed and made well over 800 visors which are now being worn by staff at Wrexham Maelor’s children’s ward and other health facilities across the region.

Clwyd South MP Simon Baynes has described the school and its staff’s work as ‘incredible.’

He said: “I was so impressed to hear about how PPE made by Ysgol Dinas Brân is now being worn by staff in health centres across North Wales.

"A school in Llangollen is helping to keep our frontline NHS doctors and nurses safe from breathing in coronavirus.

"This generous contribution of time and materials by Ysgol Dinas Brân will save lives, without a shadow of a doubt.

“I know the whole community will join me in thanking them for this incredible work – it goes to show what a fantastic, warm-hearted community we have here in Llangollen and Clwyd South.”

Head of technology Gethin Williams, said: “This is an example of how Design and Technology and associated industries can adapt quickly and flexibly to user needs.

"We’re working alongside the Design and Technology Association which is co-ordinating the supply and manufacture along with the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering.”
