Here's the latest update on the coronavirus situation from Llangollen Health Centre plus the latest patient update from Public Health Wales:
COVID-19 - PATIENT
UPDATE NO 3
As many will be aware the first case of Coronavirus in
the Wrexham area was confirmed yesterday.
Currently we are not aware of any cases within our practice area. However, we are increasing the precautionary
measures we put in place last week to safeguard our patients and staff.
From Monday 16th
March, we will be restricting access to Llangollen and Glyn Ceiriog health
centres for all patients unless you have been clinically assessed by a doctor
or nurse as needing a face to face consultation, or an essential blood test. Plas Madoc Surgery will be closed.
Patients requiring appointments will be offered a routine
telephone consultation or telephone triage depending on the urgency of their
request. Please be assured that if a
doctor assesses you as needing a face to face consultation you will be
seen.
We are taking these precautions because we need to
maintain the health centre as a safe environment for those patients who will
still need to see a doctor, as these patients are often the most vulnerable.
We will not be carrying out routine blood tests. Patients requiring essential blood tests or
anyone who is unsure whether their blood test is routine or essential should
phone us in the first instance and a nurse will contact you to discuss your
test.
Prescription requests can be phoned through to us or put
through the letterbox to the left of the main doors. Prescriptions that would normally be
collected from us will now be collected from Rowlands Pharmacy next door.
We realise that these measures will put additional pressure
on our phone system. We will be
monitoring this and putting in place alternative ways of contacting us as and
when we need to.

Please be assured we will continue to provide care for our patients albeit how we do this may differ at times from
our usual methods. However, please
use our services wisely. Our local
pharmacies can provide advice and treatment for many minor ailments and there
is a wealth of information on our website.

What
to do if you have symptoms of Coronavirus
You
should stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
- a
high temperature
- a new
continuous cough
Do
not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to
tell them you're staying at home.
If
you have need to stay at home follow our self-isolation advice (https://phw.nhs.wales/topics/latest-information-on-novel-coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/)
You
should only contact 111 if:
- you
feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- your
condition gets worse
- your
symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Most people can continue to go to work, school and other public places.
To protect yourself and other people:
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20
seconds
- always wash your hands when you get home or into work
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your
hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands
afterwards
- try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
- do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
